Time to face the sun

I really appreciate the support and encouragement and chuckles about my self-inflicted injury. And with that, it's time to turn around and face the sun. I've been worried and cranky all week with the calf. Every step is a reminder that I shouldn't have done what I did. Yes, it's still sore, but it is getting better. I have a feeling there will still be twinges at Bishop in 2 days.

I was thinking of cancelling the trip. I certainly could use the time to get other important things done. But that's not the right thing to do.

Here's the right thing (I'm sure someone will correct me if they think I'm wrong):

Hop on that plane tomorrow morning, arrive in Reno in the afternoon, drive to Bishop. Hope I can get there (without speeding) for the pre-race talk. Sleep (does ANYONE ever sleep before an ultra?), wake up, START, laugh at myself, take it easy, face the sun, embrace the sun's warmth, monitor the calf, keep going as I am able, stop if I feel like it's hurting, or keep going till I've covered the 50 miles.

Sounds reasonable to me.

If I can't do it, it's ok. I have 4 days of training in Death Valley coming up the next weekend! That's the most important thing for me.

I'm going to put my Dork Club membership on hold for a bit now. :)

Lisa,
I just read your advice. Fortunately for me, I already do a run/walk on doctors advice - so it didn't matter that I missed your comment. I ran 3.5 both yesterday and today and it does feel better for the rest of the day. It hurts when I start though!

Your plan sounds solid - I've been thinking the same thing about CD'A. If it's too bad I'll bag it, if its so-so, I'll do the half, otherwise the full with the option to drop if it gets bad. Of course, I'm hoping it'll be fine!

Good luck this weekend!

Go, Lisa! I am joining the Dork club and flying to Reno tomorrow as well (I'll be there 11:30 am, how about you?). I'll be having twinges and thinking of you, but I will continue my forward movement just as you will until we both reach the finish line. Enjoy the sun!!!

No Bishop, Silver State, but it's in Reno. May be we get to meet, lets call.

Olga, for a while there I thought we were going to get to spend some time together on the trails! That would've been nice. Have a great run at SS. I'm back at the airport on Sunday at 1pm...

Lisa, you are a crack-up!! We are so alike in so many ways. Take it easy with your calf injury. You need to be ready for Badwater. Have fun at Bishop!
